Mesa is large enough to have two scrap economies. Older block houses, including areas like Dobson Ranch’s era of building, still get repipes and full AC change-outs. The metal that matters is the copper line set and the aluminum coil, not the rusty cabinet — unless you mix them and force one low grade.
Farther out, newer sections add builder leftovers. Junk cars accumulate on long driveways where a vehicle can sit for a summer without bothering a neighbor. Say if it is in a backyard RV gate. A lot of Mesa lots were planned for that, and a tow driver needs to know.
Local prices vary by yard. Send a photo for a quote. We do not publish a Mesa scale sheet.

A magnet is a quick first check, not a final grade. If it sticks firmly, the piece is usually steel or iron, which are ferrous metals. Copper, brass, and aluminum are non-ferrous and usually will not attract a magnet. Some stainless steel behaves differently, and coatings or attached steel can confuse a quick test. Separate obvious magnetic material, then let the yard confirm the grade.
Copper wire can fall into several grades. Bare bright is clean, uncoated, unalloyed copper wire with no insulation. #1 copper is generally clean copper without solder or heavy contamination; #2 may include solder, oxidation, paint, or other acceptable attachments. Insulated wire is graded separately, and the yard decides how much copper it contains. Keep each type apart instead of blending it into one box.
Keep brass separate from copper, and remove steel fittings when they come off easily. Aluminum also has different categories, such as clean sheet, extrusion, and cast pieces; paint, screws, plastic, or steel attachments can change how it is sorted. Clean material often grades differently from dirty or mixed material. Ask the partner yard how it wants a particular load separated before spending time taking every piece apart.
Do not cut refrigerant lines or try to vent an air conditioner or refrigerator before scrap pickup. Refrigerant needs proper recovery by a qualified service provider before the appliance is processed. Ask the yard what it accepts and whether the unit must arrive with refrigerant removed. Keep appliances intact until you know the handling requirements; opening sealed systems can create a safety and environmental problem.
Catalytic converters may need extra ownership information and paperwork. Requirements depend on the buyer and applicable rules, so ask the partner yard what identification or proof it needs before bringing one in. Do not assume a loose converter will be accepted with a mixed scrap load. Keep it separate, and be ready to explain where it came from and provide any documents the yard requests.
For a junk car, ask the yard what title or ownership documents it requires before arranging removal; requirements can depend on the vehicle and situation. Have the keys, your identification, and the vehicle location ready, and mention if it does not run, has flat tires, or is behind a gate. Remove personal belongings and clear a safe path. Valley Photo Quotes connects sellers with independent partner yards; the yard handles inspection, weighing, paperwork, and payment.
Not automatically. Stripping takes time and can expose you to sharp ends or tool injuries. The insulated-wire grade may be worth selling as-is, depending on the wire and the yard’s grading. Send separate photos of insulated and stripped wire, then compare the yard’s guidance with the time and effort needed to strip it safely.
Separate attachments when they come off easily without damaging the aluminum. Mixed or dirty material may be graded differently, but stripping every fastener may not be worthwhile. Take a photo of the load as it sits and ask the partner yard what it accepts in that category before doing extra work.
Contact the partner yard before scheduling removal and explain what ownership documents you do have. Ask what alternatives, if any, it can accept and whether the vehicle can be picked up without a title in your situation. Requirements are not the same for every vehicle or transaction, so do not rely on a general answer.
Send clear photos of the vehicle and its surroundings, and include the year, make, model, whether it runs, and whether keys are available. Describe access, including a gate or tight approach, and mention flat tires or missing parts. The yard may need to confirm details before giving a final amount or setting pickup.
Valley Photo Quotes is a referral service, not the scrap buyer. An independent partner yard confirms the material, handles the scale ticket and any required identification, and makes payment under its process. Ask that yard how it records weight and what payment methods it accepts before you agree to a pickup or delivery.
